2.29.08 I love the sunroof in my new car

Today was a gorgeous day and I had the sunroof open to take it all in. For those of you who don't live in Wichita, those things that look like smokestacks are actually very cool pieces of public art that illuminate at night.

I just finished a documentary about the road trip we took last week in my old car. When the sunroof is down and I'm sitting pretty in the leather seats, I really don't miss my '96 Civic.

2.27.08 stopping traffic

This shadow belongs to my friend Bonnie. She stopped traffic as we illegally crossed a busy downtown street with three models and a 10-year-old girl who was shadowing Bonnie for the day. Bonnie's shadow (the 10-year-old girl) is not pictured here with the other shadows.

2.26.08 a middle school do

I was shooting pictures at a middle school today when I spotted this funky do. I like it, although I don't think it would look good on me.

2.25.08 air-to-air

Shot this while flying out of Atlanta this morning. It was a beautiful blue morning, at least that's what it looked like at that altitude.

Thankfully, Mary was able to roll out of bed and bitch slap us to the train. We rode it to the airport and it was quite delightful. Did you know that it's illegal to have coffee on the MARTA? Weird.

I posted more pictures from our trip over here.

2.24.08 Mary's Bitch Slap in a Barbie cup

CRG and I had a few afternoon cocktails in Atlanta with my friend Mixmastress Mary. She's the mother of two girls and has a lot of Barbie Dixie cups in her liquor cabinet. (Not to worry, the kiddos don't get near the booze.)

This drink is Mary's Bitch Slap and it consists of: 1 shot triple sec, 1 shot peach schnaps, 1 splash of cranberry juice, 1 splash of lemon or lime juice, 1 paper umbrella and 1 Barbie cup.

By the way, this Bitch Slap (and the drinks that followed) slapped Mary on her tushie and she turned in tonight at 7 p.m.

2.23.08 cat eyes in Cleveland, Tennessee

We're hanging with my sister Stefanie and her daughter Lily Belle. She's (Lily) Miss Feline Cleveland 2005. Lily isn't the only pageant winner in the house. Stef is Miss Temple Terrace 1991.

2.21.08 a room with a killer view

We're staying at a hotel across the street from the Gateway Arch and, as you can see, we have an awesome view. Our room cost $20 more for the view, but we do believe that is was worth it.

2.20.08 203,128 miles

Carter and I are driving to Tenneessee in the morning. It's the birthplace of my 1996 Honda Civic. We're going to visit friends, give my brother my car and then fly back home.

We're also going to make a documentary about my car of twelve years along the way. Here's a preview.

2.18.08 the godfather of my tub

This is another fabulous present from Denise. It's a rubber duck in the shape of the late James Brown.

We met the Godfather in 1997 before he performed a concert in Chattanooga, Tenn. When the interview was over he told us, "I hope y'all live a hundred years and I live a hundred minus a day. So, I'll never have to know that the beautiful people of Chattanooga have passed away." And then he yelled, "WHOOOOA!"

I didn't know if I should clap or cry. That man was a poet.

2.17.08 getting the scoop

Joe and I were sent to report on a plane that crashed in a very muddy field. This kind farmer gave us a ride to the scene in the bucket of his tractor.

2.16.08 mealtime means togetherness for every living creature

My cat does the same thing. I act horrified when she does it in front of guests (just a big ruse). It's a feline thing.

2.15.08 my coffee is smiling at me

The mug didn't come like this (phew!). This lipstick came from my own mug and I must've been wearing a thick coat. This design could make for a cute cup, though.

2.14.08 Happy. Love. Shaved legs.

Happy Valentine's Day. I started the holiday off by shaving my legs this morning. (Your welcome, Honey).

You can't really see it, but my pedicurist gave me an early Valentine's Day present last week when she painted "HAPPY" on one toe and "LOVE" on another. She painted mistletoes on my feet when I visited her a few days before Christmas.

NOTE TO SELF: Stop getting pedicures around the holidays.

2.13.08 I hope these stay up all year

I spotted this beautiful wall at a McDonald's in Lawrence where I stopped to visit the loo. Sadly, the bathroom wasn't nearly as delightful.

2.11.08 good stuff, no matter what you call it

I have three friends who make this dessert and they each call it something different: lava cakes, chocolate souffles, and sinkholes. I call it a chocolate orgasm.

I got the cute heart-shaped ramekin at Target, of course.

2.10.08 Mr. Tree

Denise and Nick gave me this fantastic tree face several years ago. I can't remember if it was for Christmas, my birthday, or maybe it was Arbor Day. Whatever the occasion was, I'm so glad I got him.

2.09.08 leathery light

Here's my friend (and Mudbug bandmate) Erin listening to the groovy sounds of Joe, Carter, Nick and Aditya at Oeno Wine Bar. The thing in the background is a leathery light fixture that reminds me of a coral reef.

2.08.08 I love sunsets

I took this tonight on my drive down to Wellington for band practice. I did not have both hands on the wheel (sorry, Michelle).

2.07.08 it's good to be home

I think somebody missed us. Or, maybe she just missed snuggling up on the Eagle. She is a huge fan.

2.06.08 a very happy 93-year-old man

A very long story short: my grandfather was headed to a nursing home (a place he said would kill him) and a plethora of fantastic things started working in his favor. He's now headed to an assisted-living center, a place where he has lived and liked.

Today, he is one happy man. Can you tell?

2.5.08 chillin' in the hot tub

Carter and I are in Florida helping my grandfather move into a nursing home. Trying to convince a 93-year-old that he can no longer live on his own is a very stressful and emotional task. We found a little bit of respite in the hot tub by the pool and a bucket of beers.

2.03.08 pinkish flamingos

Went to the zoo today with Ushi Booshi and Lara. You can't really tell in this reflective flamingo photo I shot, but the flamingos at the Sedgwick County Zoo are more orange than pink.

Oh well, I'm headed to Florida where there's a pink flamingo on every corner.

2.02.08 as promised

Ushi with lunch on her face. She's even cute with scraps of food on her face. How does she do it?

2.01.08 I'm not the only photographer in the family

My sister Lara and her daughter Ursula (Ushi) are visiting me from Chicago while my brother-in-law plays with his band at Mardi Gras.

Expect to see some more photos of Ushi over the next few days.
