4.30.08 today was a struggle

I've been glued to my computer all day working on videos and slideshows about Greensburg (I also managed to sneak in a 22-minute episode of "The Office" on Hulu).

So, about an hour ago I realized that I hadn't taken one single frame today and that's when I went after my cat. As you can see, she didn't really wanna play along.

4.29.08 chirping outside my window

This Cardinal and a few of his friends have spent the last few days singing outside my window. I like it, but it's making Blixie very anxious.

4.27.08 post-Gridiron detox

This is the last you'll hear of Gridiron this year. I promise.

4.26.08 I survived

I survived my ninth show and I'm whooped. We set a Gridiron attendance record with 750 audience members at last night's final performance.

Here's a pic of Ted and Teresa waiting in the wings. I wish you could see Teresa's crazy high-heeled hooker shoes. Nobody rocks them better than she does.

4.25.08 art imitating life

I portray a newspaper photographer in this skit, so I used my camera prop to take a few pictures on stage. Once again, it's time for me to clean my face and rid my hair of metal pins. Tomorrow's the final show.

4.24.08 another backstage pic

Gridiron opened last night and it was a great show. "The best in years," said a few guests. (They say that every year.)

Here's Bonnie chillin' in the dressing room before the performance began. I think she looks divine.

I would've posted this earlier, but the gang went to Harry's after the show. That's where I created a new bar game that really wowed the crowd called "How Many Pins Are Enmeshed In Jaime's Hair?" The answer was 56. Congratulations, Sierra (her guess was the closest) and thanks to the cast for playing along.

4.23.08 and so it begins

Dress rehearsal was tonight and here's a backstage photo of me and the Veaz just before a skit about Wild West World. She's sporting her sexy Nelly Vagisil duds and I'm wearing a shirt that Carter just bought for our next Mudbugs gig.

Now I'm off to scrape seven layers of makeup off my face.

4.22.08 $1 per tooth

Little CRG just lost his second tooth. His Tooth Fairy is paying a buck a tooth. I'm sure he'll buy a sword with the money.

4.21.08 Jammie

We had our first Gridiron rehearsal tonight with microphones. I was thrilled to see that I got lucky #7 labeled with a spelling of my name that I've never before seen. Ever.

4.20.08 Bye Bye Birdie

You're gonna see a lot of pictures from the theater this week. Gridiron opens on Thursday and after practice tonight I performed in a cameo show of "Bye Bye Birdie" with Music Theatre for Young People

Here I am with some of the other actors I was assigned to shadow. It was so much fun to be on stage with 50 kids. I'm not too sure what I did up there, but it got a good laugh.

4.19.08 Art at the Arb

I purchased a new piece of art today at "Art at the Arb." It's from a series by an artist who illustrated a children's book.

I took lots of pics today at the event that you can see here

4.18.08 more kitchen comforts

This is the second kitchen project CRG has crafted for my kitchen. He made two sliding drawers that make it easy for me to get to all of my kitchen crap. It's divine.

4.17.08 this was real

Unlike the fake drama I photographed yesterday, what I saw today at the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility was very, VERY real. That's my co-worker Ron interviewing inmates in the segregated area. There once was tile where he is standing, but over the years it has been eaten away from toxic bodily fluid thrown out the windows and onto the floor. (Note to self: burn these shoes.)

I almost wasn't allowed into the facility because of my bra (believe me, I can't make this up). The underwire that keeps me secure is considered a security threat. The thinking is that an inmate could get it and use it for contraband (not sure how they'd get it off of me, it's pretty much pasted on). The warden reluctantly let me in and forgo searching my entire body. Phew!

4.16.08 Don't worry, it's not real

It felt really real, though.

I photographed a fake DUI accident at a local high school today that was intended to scare students into not driving drunk on prom night. In fact, it was so convincing that I've decided, if I ever procreate, my children will never EVER drive on prom night or any other night.

4.15.08 Eagle Unplugged

We lost the use of the Eagle's computer system for a good part of the afternoon, so an impromptu game of cards ensued. Ah, good times.

4.14.08 spotted at a bowling alley

I was struck by the composition of this colorful ball. I actually hate bowling as a sport. It's an awkward action that has never come naturally to me. I do, however, like lawn bowling. Bocce, anyone?

4.13.08 Flat Stanley waves goodbye

I've had a guest in my home for the past week. His name is Flat Stanley and he's fun to hang with, he's polite and he didn't make one mess. You can see his adventures in a video I created

He goes back to Vermont in the morning and my life isn't going to be the same without him. Thanks for the great memories, Stan.

4.12.08 ants in my kitchen

The ants in my kitchen are trapped in an ant farm, a National Geographic Ant Farm, to be exact. Carter bought the farm for his kids in November and I sent the postcard in to redeem the ants by mail. A few days before Christmas, I received a postcard that said the ants couldn't be mailed until it warmed up all across the nation.

Well, last week I received a tube of ants and they are now in their new habitat getting ready for their trip to Wellington. They're actually kinda cute.

4.09.08 my Gridiron hos

I stepped away from the pack of hos to snap this pic during tonight's rehearsal. I'm sad to report that VZ (the best Gridiron ho in the history of Gridiron hos) is not in this skit. I'm sure her family will be disappointed.

4.08.08 ahhh...pretty

Fifty weeks out of the year I'm not too fond of this large shrub outside my kitchen window. In the winter it's a thorny mess and the rest of the time it's just out of control. For a couple of weeks in the spring, it is covered in these beautiful buds and, well, that's alright with me.

4.07.08 Minnie Mouse shoes

Robin sports some pretty cute Minnie Mouse shoes. I'm fairly certain that KU won the national championship because she sported crimson.

4.05.08 Kansas grown

We braved the windy weather and checked out the opening of the Kansas Grown Farmers Market. Lexi is pictured with a locally grown organic lollipop, or something like that.

4.03.08 40 Years of Mediocrity

Here's Bonnie clowning around at Gridiron practice tonight. I also photographed Bucky doing his X-rated clam joke. Ask him about it. Funny stuff.

Rehearsals started this week and the show is April 24-26 at the Orpheum. This year's theme is "40 Years of Mediocrity" as it is the 40th anniversary of the show.

4.02.08 living in the air capital

After living in Wichita for nine years, I've become pretty good at identifying planes. This happens to be a Boeing Steerman that I shot this morning.

I've lived in the Air Capital and the Imaging Capital (Rochester, N.Y., the home of Kodak), but I've never lived in a state capitol. Huh.
