5.31.08 Little CRG's barber shop

Little CRG charges one buck for a haircut. He's actually pretty good and very affordable.

5.30.08 Mudbug love

The Mudbugs were back in the studio last night working on our demo. It's hot stuff!

5.29.08 working on my kuh-raw-tay skills

I know it probably looks like I'm doing the crane from Karate Kid, but I'm actually doing the wasp -- as in there was a killer wasp headed straight towards me. This picture is one of many I fired off while making a time-lapse of my day of painting

I painted the fence last week and I'm thinking that my car could use a coat of wax. Mr. Miyagi would be so proud.

5.27.08 Chef Boyardee, Batman and a lot of water

Robin called me this morning and told me I had to come down to her place to see the flooding.  I thought about two years ago when the creek was completely dry and she never thought it would rain again. I was about to remind her of this when we walked out onto the balcony to see the water and I said, "Remember when...OH MY GAWD!"

That's her in the lower right-hand corner looking at the muddy mess. It should go down in about a day.

Kenny and Micah were stuck in their house on the other side of the creek and escaped by paddling across the Arb in a canoe. They spent the day eating Chef Boyardee and watching Batman. Sounds kinda fun to me. The Arb cleanup doesn't sound like blast, however.

UPDATE: Here's a short video I made about the sweet reunion.

5.25.08 no grandma for Bentley

I checked on Bentley this afternoon. His folks are visiting his grandma and he didn't get to go. Poor feline.

The good news is that his mama bought tomato plants today and this man is cuckoo for 'maters. I'm not even kidding. It's completely true. Hey, my cat loooves garbanzo beans.

5.24.08 Santos

I found these inside a vending machine today. They're kinda like the Catholic version of Homies. Must be pretty popular since there was only one left.

5.23.08 blooming

Last year I planted a tree for the very first time. OK, I didn't actually put it in the ground (two men from Johnson's Garden Center did that), but the idea was my brainchild. Anyway, I'm happy to report that it's doing great. I couldn't be more proud.

5.21.08 book club

What happens at book club, stays at book club. So, I'm not going to share what was being discussed. As you can see, Teresa didn't want to hear it. She covered her ears and sang, "Lah. Lah. Lah. Lah."

5.20.08 stuff guys rarely see

I had my annual "well woman" exam today and saw my new doctor who could easily pass for Julie Mah's mini-me. I asked her if the male patients ever even notice the lovely artwork on the ceiling. She said that only happened once when she was performing a vasectomy on a guy in that very room. Huh.

I guess the posters are only for us, ladies.

5.19.08 Mt. Everest to an ant

Denise gave me a beautiful bouquet of peonies from her garden on Saturday. It came with a few bonus creatures, too.

The flowers have held up well for three days and they still smell fantastic. Can't wait until someone invents smellovision.

5.18.08 Sarge

Meet Sarge. He's a puppy I met today at El Dorado Lake State Park and he's pretty freakin' cute. Am I wrong? I don't think so.

5.17.08 Moon River

CRG and I went to see the fireworks tonight at the Wichita River Festival where I shot this pic (actually, it's a series of four photos that have been squished together using 2008 computer technology).

5.16.08 the yard

CRG and I went to the Yard today on a quest to find a few things for my home beautification project. We actually found what we needed, and it wasn't these attractive pans.

The Yard is insane. Every boy I know is in love with that store and all of the wacky gadgets they sell. It took me a very long time to get CRG out of that place. A very long time.

5.15.08 popcorn is evil

So, yesterday I was enjoying an after-school snack of popcorn when CRUUUNCH happened. I knew it wasn't good. I bit into a kernel with my molar that had a giant silver filling and a significant hunk cracked off. I never retrieved the missing piece, so it must've gone down my gullet. As I predicted, I had to have a crown made today.

It's probably not incredibly wise to shoot a self-portrait while a dentist is drilling on you. They gave me a triple dose of numbing agents, so I didn't feel much of anything. In fact, I still have some numbness, but I have stopped drooling.

The good news is that I didn't get another speeding ticket on my way to my appointment. I was headed to a routine dental cleaning last week when I got stopped and the same officer was in the same spot today. I set the cruise control to 35 mph (I wasn't going to take any chances) and smiled as I drove by him.

5.14.08 bugging my daisy

I've been inspired by the season (and by the plant sale at my neighborhood Sutherlands) to add some color to my yard. As you can see, all of the creatures are loving it.

5.11.08 more festival fun

I ran into one of my favorite moms at the River Festival today. That's Joanna with Cooper in her arms sliding down an inflatable slide.

5.10.08 the hot seat

The three CRGs and me went to Tokyo Steakhouse tonight. I'm happy to report that we left with our eyebrows intact AND I caught the flying shrimp in my mouth on the very first try.

We had so much fun that it didn't even matter that the restaurant's liquor license has expired.

5.09.09 the Wichita River Festival has begun

Denise and Bonnie strike a pose after sitting through a very long parade. Those two deserve a funnel cake.

Here's a link to the video I made about the parade

5.09.08 Pamatinis

Would've posted this last night, but had a few too many of these (actually, we completed the cliche and went to a late movie afterwards). It's a Pamatini from Cafe Bella Luna and it was delish. It's part pomegranate/part pineapple/part vodka (actually, that part could've been a tad bigger).

We saw "Iron Man." I guess it's been awhile since I've been to a movie since I was shocked that our tickets cost $9 apiece. It's not a movie I would normally seek out, but since CRG is a boy and all, he wanted to see it. Surprisingly, I liked it and it did not disappoint the females in the audience.

5.07.08 Busted!

I got my first speeding ticket in nine years today in a trap off of Kellogg. That's Officer Friendly in the background. After writing me a $131 ticket, he told me to have a nice day. I politely replied with, "I wish I could say the same to you." It's true, I really wish I could've told him that.

Oh well, I guess it was just my time.

Below is the exact scene of the crime.

5.06.08 WH

We spotted a Waffle House in Kansas City and CRG had to have him some coffee, grits, eggs and toast. I had a buttery biscuit with eggs which was the best biscuit I've ever sent down my gullet.

5.05.08 CRG's birthday

Met up with Denise and Nick in Kansas City to celebrate Carter's birthday and see "The Swell Season" perform. They are the two actors/musicians who star in the movie "Once."

It was a good show, although the leader of the band (Glen) was a wee bit too loquacious.

5.04.08 a long day

I shot, er, photographed President Bush in Greensburg today where he spoke at a graduation ceremony. It was a veeeery long day.

5.03.08 Back away from mamma's candles

We celebrated Joanna's birthday tonight. The poor woman had to use the old hand-over-the-mouth tactic to keep her two littles from blowing out her candles. I'm happy to say that she was successful. Cha-cha-cha.

5.02.08 Giordano's stuffed pizza

To celebrate CRG's impending birthday (he's a Cinco de Mayo baby), I ordered his favorite pizza in the world from Giordano's in Chicago. We Mudbugs gobbled it up in a hurry.
