8.30.08 lottery ticket

Big money. Big money. No whammies!

UPDATE: I didn't win. Boo.

8.29.08 brutha from anotha mutha

One of Carter's best bros, Aditya (a.k.a. brutha from anotha mutha), is in town for the weekend. You're looking at their shadows as captured by my cellphone camera. Yep, I need an iPhone.

8.28.08 she plays a mean triangle and he plays a meaner accordion

Erin brought her new triangle to practice and that gigantic thing rings a clean, mean sound. The Mudbugs learned three new songs and are getting geared up to play Zoobilee. We're also playing on the patio at Oeono on Sat., Sept. 20.

You must check out Greg doing the theme for "The Office" on the accordion. We should Cajunify it a little bit and then we'll have our fourth new song.

8.27.08 Snortin' Norton

Norty licks his lips after gnawing on a green tomato he ripped from the vine.

I'm helping him with his blog on The site is still in beta and will be officially launched next week, but you can join now. It's kinda like a Myspace for furry folks.

8.25.08 Jitterbugs

I had the pleasure of taking Lexi to a Jitterbugs class this morning at her school. It's like a dance class for preschoolers.

If her folks pony up $30 a month, she'll be a full-fledge Jitterbug and will perform in the recital at the end of the year. And if they give an extra $15, she'll get to rent a costume for said recital. I think the instructor, Jitterbug Janice (folks, that's really her name), has a good gig going. Jitterbug Jaime has a nice ring to it. Hmm...

8.24.08 ahhhhhhh

Target. It's a beautiful thing.

8.23.08 there goes the bride

I shot a beautiful wedding and kickin' reception last night with my trusty assistant. It was the largest wedding I've ever seen with 350 guests.

8.21.08 a great day for golf

Brian took a short break from work to hit one golf ball down the railroad tracks. It's a good thing he's a great golfer, a less-experienced one might've shot it into the parking lot full of cars. His ball landed about 75 yards down the tracks, a straight line from where he was standing. I think he should go buy a lottery ticket.

8.20.08 watching over the streets of Wichita

The Wichita Police Department's Mounted Unit was training their horses on Wednesday by spending the day trotting around the city.

8.19.08 I'm such a sucker for a green wall

I was working on a business story about a new chain of cell phone stores when I shot this of one of the owners.

8.18.08 feel the burn

Today was the first day of practice for high school football players in Wichita.

I'm thankful my computer doesn't have this technology, because the scent it would emit would be of sweaty teenage boys and that's not good.

8.17.08 spotted in the Eagle's canteen

Huh? BK Ketchup & Fries Flavored Potato Snacks? Seems a little strange to me. It turns out that they also make a flame broiled burger potato chip and they are both free of trans fats. I chose the animal crackers.

8.16.08 "I'm the king of the world!"

The CRGs and me went to an extremely cool playground. The littlest CRG climbed on top of the equipment and pronounced "I'm the king of the world!" He wasn't even around when Titanic was released in 1997 and I'm pretty sure he hasn't seen the movie. Turns out, it's a very popular thing to say while hanging from the playground equipment, since we heard it again from some other boy who looked to be about the same age.

8.15.08 kids love them some Beanie Babies

I'm so glad I have these cuddly creatures stuffed inside a shoe box at the bottom of my closet. Every child in my life adores them. Those Beanies have been known to dance to the Mudbugs music, at Lexi's request (she's our biggest fan).

8.12.08 smiling from ear to ear

This is Gabe and he's helping Robin out this summer. He's known around the Arb for his great smile and hard work.

8.10.08 a bunch of drums, not much drummin'

CRG and I spent most of Friday pimping out my new pink drums. We bought fancy heads for them and tuned them in preparation of Saturday night's gig at Oeno. They look and sound great. Here's a pic I shot this morning of my new and old set in my music/fitness/computer room. I gave my old set to its new owner this afternoon who is probably rocking out whilst I type.

Unfortunately, it rained last night and The Mudbugs show on the patio was cancelled. We're a little too loud for the interiors of Oeno, so CRG and friends played a great indoor show (minus percussion) AND the Mudbugs got to drink on the house!

Oeno wants the Mudbugs back and we are looking at two possible dates in Sept. They plan to enlarge the patio for the event. I'll keep you posted.

8.09.08 These two can shake their groove things!

I haven't had a chance to sort through the 1,800 images I shot yesterday (that's no exaggeration, btw) at Amanda's wedding, but this picture of Brian and Lori stuck out as a good one right away.

These are two people you want at your party. They're incredible on the dance floor.  Brian's mom told me he didn't get his mad skillz from her or his father. I'm sure that Lori did, however, inherit it from her father, since he was tearing up the dance floor as well. Those O'Tooles know how to party! It was a great time and a fantastic wedding.

8.07.08 naked ladies

Denise calls these flowers Naked Ladies. Not sure if that's the technical name, but it sure is fun. Anyway, I've been seeing these ladies all over town, including my yard.

8.06.08 pink(ish) drums

I've done my part to encourage the economy by investing in a new drum kit that arrived today, just in time for Saturday's gig at Oeno. It's listed as pink, the box says it's pink, but it's really more of a purplish pink and that's OK with me.

I'll shoot a picture of the entire set after my sound technician tunes it. The only problem with it is that it's going to clash with my Mudbugs outfit. Time to go shopping, I suppose.

8.04.08 historic times

CRG and I went to the Town & Country tonight where I enjoyed a fabulous chicken Greek salad (seriously, they have the best Greek in town) and he enjoyed smoking a cigarette next to the cash register. That ashtray will be coming down soon as the smoking ban begins next month.

My first photo editor, Walt Stricklin, told me years ago to begin a long-term photo project about the end of smoking. I wish I would've listened to him in 1995 'cause I could've had an impressive body of work by now.

8.02.08 all he wants to do is rock

Denise's 4-year-old nephew came to see the Mudbugs on Friday night and was apparently taken aback by my mad percussion skillzzz (ah, young, impressionable minds). Joe went to bed that night and prayed to God that he would become a drummer. I'm not making this up, his mama told me so.

I stopped by this morning and he was sporting his cousin Lexi's very rockin' tie-dyed heart T-shirt and running around the house with these sticks. When everybody was up (I'm not a real rock star, since I was up before some of my groupies) we let him jam on Lexi's set.

I do believe that a rocker has been born.

8.1.08 Mudbugs at the Cowley County Fair

It's hard for me to shoot action shots of the Mudbugs since I'm hard at work banging on the drums. I snapped a few last night during the sound-check and a couple more during one of Bobby Boudreaux's Cajun jokes. Bobby is Carter's Cajun alter ego, mine is Queen Cupcake (kinda like a Carnival king cake).

It was so much fun it was to have my groupies at the show.

7.31.08 mini serving of fried chicken

Kenny ordered a heaping platter of fried chicken and mashed taters at the Old Mill Tasty Shop and this is the tiny platter he was served. Turns out that the owner was playing a little trick on him and brought out the chicken platter shortly after. As a bonus, I ate the mini platter. Mmm.
