01.29.09 afternoon treat

I met CRG for an afternoon coffee and gelato today. Mmm. Mmm. Good.

01.28.09 Happy homemaker in a new home

Peggy shows off her mixer stand in her fancy kitchen during book club. The mixer easily pulls out from underneath the cabinets and is her favorite feature of her new home.

My favorite feature was the automatic fireplace. Ahhhhhh.

01.25.09 Happy New Year!

Monday starts the Chinese year 4707 (the year of the Ox) and dragons were dancing all over Wichita celebrating New Year's Eve.

These dragons will be at Saigon at noon on Monday.

01.24.09 We make a GREAT gumbo

One of my favorite songs we do with the Mudbugs is a cover of a Tab Benoit song called "We Make A Good Gumbo." Carter sings "My baby got the fire. (I scream after hearing this.) I got the roux. We make a good gumbo. Oh, yes, we do."

Well, we can now back up our claim because we made a great sausage and chicken gumbo by following the master, Justin Wilson. My baby stirred up the roux for an hour and a half, which is not unlike a verse in the song that says, "My baby doesn't mind if it takes all night."

Oh, exciting news about the Mudbugs, we're playing on Fat Tuesday (Tuesday, Feb. 24) at Heroes Sports Bar in Old Town, Wichita. We're pretty pumped up about the gig!

01.23.09 Oh I Wish

We spotted the Wienermobile in front of Dillon's and CRG just had to take a bite. We also had to sing the "B-O-L-O-G-N-A" song but were rewarded with TWO Oscar Meyer Weinermobile whistles for our lovely rendition of the classic song.

We toured the inside and learned that there are six Wienermobiles touring the country at this very moment. We also found out that the Wienermobile recently ran out of gas on Rock Rd. (something I overheard on the police scanner, but thought was a joke). Alana Pickles said that this had never happened during her entire career as a Hotdogger.

01.20.09 much hipper than an Olan Mills background

I covered an inauguration watch party where an enterprising photographer (not me) took portraits of people in front of this Obama background for a small fee. This isn't the first time I've been photographed with Obama.

01.19.09 a sneak peak

I took an official tour of the Donut Whole, which included the men's bathroom. It was shockingly clean and I love the flying donut art. ( The women's bathroom has similar artwork but I never pass up a chance to see something I normally can't see.)

01.18.09 the recipient of the "Pack of Ponies"

The ponies are lined up at school discussing what they brought for show-and-tell.

Other daily photo blogs

Some of my friends have recently started daily photo blogs and I just created a list of links to the right.

Thru the I of Shay was created by (drrrrrummmmroll, please) SHAY! We went to college together and she now lives in Atlanta with her husband and son.

Shay's mother-in-law was inspired to create a similar blog. She lives in Michigan.

Mike and his wife had their first child and he is documenting her daily moves.

And Jill and her friend Bets both live in the Kansas City area and they are shooting The View Across Town. This blog started off in a similar fashion but I couldn't get the Hartford, Conn. to completely commit to the project. I hope you two have better luck.

01.17.09 the birthday boy

Brian Buselt celebrated his 31st birthday by throwing a bowling party with pizza, cupcakes, bunny ears and BEER! It was the best bowling party I've ever attended. I'm pretty sure that the drinks helped me break 100 for the first time ever.

A side note: Brian's wife, Lori, tells me that the shirt he's wearing is one of a small collection of shirts he is not allowed to wear around the church youth group the couple mentors. Phew.

01.16.09 the making of a Binger*

Denise shoots a Binger of Amy (center) and friends at Amy's surprise birthday party. Look for it in Bonnie's social column in the next couple of weeks. It's too bad the Bing's Binger rules are so strict because Denise shot some terrific action shots of party guests playing Wii.

*Binger (BING er) noun 1. a photograph in Bonnie Bing's Sunday social column of The Wichita Eagle, consisting of no more than five individuals neatly lined up in a smiling row: Bonnie is gonna flip out when she sees the awesome Binger Denise shot at Amy's party.

01.15.09 pack of ponies

Picked this up at the DAV for a buck. I know a little girl who is gonna love these Little Ponies!

01.13.09 Roland Burris Reflected

I watched the Today show this morning while running on the treadmill. When I got off the treadmill I noticed that Roland Burris was reflected in the window in front of the sunrise. Kinda strange.

01.12.08 Master of the Lodge

This is Carter's dad, Bob Green, who recently became Master of the Wellington Lodge #150. Bob's dad was also a Mason. Carter is Senior Warden of the Lodge and will become Master in 2010.

I really want Carter to also become a Shriner so he can wear a bedazzled Fez.

01.10.09 Bush & beer, but no Busch beer

Took this at a party I attended on Friday night. It counts for Saturday's picture of the day since I actually shot it during the wee hours of Saturday morning.

OK, now that the legal disclaimer is out of the way, it was a great party (as evidenced by these empty containers). In addition to these drinks, there was a tub-o-beer and some interesting bathroom art.

01.09.09 NERDO

This building in my neighborhood was recently tagged by the NERDO gang. I'm not sure if I should be scared or tickled (I'm leaning toward to latter). It looks like the Dorksters have descended upon our hood, too.

01.08.09 Saigon #50

Saigon #50 - Noodles, chicken, sprouts, and lots of Hoisin sauce. The restaurant's owner told me that the dancing dragon will be visiting the joint on Monday, Jan. 26 at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate the Chinese New Year. It's a good time with good food.

01.07.09 a clip and dip

Sister Stella had a canine companion at the beauty parlor. That's Robin in the background getting a dip

01.05.09 Gulp!

I went with Denise to check out a new donut shop that opened today. Sadly, they were out of donuts, but we did have a good time posing with this lion. I mean, it's a ginormous adorable lion, how could you not put your head in his mouth? Good times.

01.04.09 Norty's New Year's Resolution

I helped Norton today by photographing him for his latest blog entry. His pugmanship is fairly decent and I think his goal is attainable.

01.03.09 Happy birthday to Coop, Cha-Cha-Cha*

Cooper (the most appreciative gift recipient I have ever seen) flies through the air to hug Lexi after opening up the Lincoln Logs she gave him. Here's the hug

Oh, and here's a pretty cute photo of him blowing out a candle on top of the cutest cupcake cake I've ever seen.

*The Chadwick family has its own rendition of "Happy Birthday" that includes the line "Cha-Cha-Cha" after "Happy birthday to you." I love it! Cha-Cha-Cha.

366 images in under four minutes

Here's a video with all of the images I shot last year for this project. I'm glad I did this project, which is why I am going to do it again in '09. It's been a fun way to share images. This blog also forced me to shoot many things I probably wouldn't have in the past. I also like the daily challenge (most days).

I took these photos with many types of cameras, using everything from the pro Canon Mark II to my camera phone, which isn't so fancy. The camera I used the most was the Canon G9 (thanks, Honey, for the fantastic birthday gift). It's a very fancy point and shoot that gives me manual control without the bulk of the Canon Mark II - I take it everywhere.

After looking at all 366 photographs, I realized that there are a lot of photographs of Lexi, Carter and alcoholic beverages (Carter was often sipping said drinks, but Lexi never was).

You can see a bigger version by clicking on the arrows in the player or going over to my other blog.

01.02.09 couch is good...

Feeling sick with chills is not so good. He perked up a little bit later.

01.01.09 good luck (or so I'm told)

After we popped open our champagne and sang "Auld Lang Syne" (with Greg piping the tune) Carter stuck a quarter in the cork. He claims it's good luck to do so. I had never heard of such a thing, but I'll never turn down a dose of good luck.

I did turn down a Key Lime martini earlier in the night at Denise and Nick's annual New Year's Eve party. I was afraid that I might start glowing.

12.31.08 Poor Carrie and Joe

This is what Joe and Carrie woke up to on the morning of New Year's Eve. There were a couple of rolls of high-quality toilet paper that Joe wanted to keep around for future use (Carrie nixed that idea quickly). Carrie, Earth Day is every single day!
