02.28.09 Lexi's birthday party

Lexi's birthday party was today and she was showered with friends, food and gifts. One of her favorite gifts was this ball filled with water and glitter.

I made a video of still photographs from the party you can see here.

02.27.09 Final Friday

Went to the Fish Haus Studios and checked out their recent show of pictures from Afghanistan taken by Gloriann Liu. Really amazing stuff.

02.26.09 I love this pic

This is L'Oreal Evans-Birden and she's the new executive director of the Kansas African American Museum. I shot this picture for the paper, but it didn't quite work with the story. I really like the photo and I'm glad I have this venue to share it.

02.25.09 finger puppets

Picked up these cute critters for my niece's upcoming third birthday.

02.24.09 Fat Tuesday

My sister, Lara, came down from Chicago for our big Mardi Gras gig at Heroes. Lara is sporting her homemade horns (I have a pink and red pair). She grew some facial hair a few hours into the Mudbugs' show.

02.22.09 kitty greeting

Blixie greets me in the morning with a little rub on my pajama bottoms and then she does figure eights through my legs. I love that cat!

02.21.09 jump

I shot my friend Katie, with assistance from Denise. Can you tell that Katie is a dancer? She is also very photogenic and didn't have a problem with the very cold temperatures.

02.20.09 October 2!

The Mudbugs played the Mardi Gras Ball at our favorite venue, the Fun Barn. There are colorful things inside the barn (see boot chandelier) and random oddities outside, like this blue bottle tree.

We love that place so much that we booked the wedding reception to be at the Fun Barn for Friday, Oct. 2. WOO-HOO! Its wonderful kookiness will be in stark contrast to our wedding venue, the beautiful (and always classy) Bartlett Arboretum.

We are also going to use the same chef who catered last Mardi Gras Ball (the best Cajun food we've ever eaten) and there will be some Mudbugs (in addition to the band members) on the menu.

02.19.009 here's to all of us

Our friends Erin and Alan came over with a celebratory bottle of champagne and we gladly imbibed. They recently got engaged, too.

02.18.09 she's a wise woman

I had my first meeting with wedding planner extraordinaire Carrie Rengers today. She gave me great advice and wrote down a mantra for me to remember through this process, "As long as I marry that man and have a cocktail, it's all good!" She's right.

Now, I am hoping that the the people who booked The Fun Barn for October 3 will cancel (please, please, please). That's an open date for my wedding venue and photographer, but not the barn. Argh!

02.17.08 two lovebirds

Spent the morning at the Eagle Valley Raptor Center where I saw these two adorable Screech owls that were rescued from the aftermath of the Greensburg tornado. They look like little fuzzy  Muppets.

Today was "Take Your Fiance To Work Day." I was thankful to spend time with mine and very happy to have him there to shlep video and still cameras (as Ma Green likes to say, "he's useful as well as ornamental").

02.16.09 the surprise

Here's the wonderful surprise Carter gave me on Sunday night, photographed in the flowers he game me for Valentine's Day. It's exactly what I wanted. I love you, honey.

02.15.09 a wonderful surprise

I should've known by Carter's look during our sound check that he was up to something. He finished our Mudbugs gig with a fabulous surprise in front of all of our friends. It was fantastic.

02.13.09 Sister Stella

Her full name is Sister Stella Dora Mary Carrie St James Lexicon White Dog and she lives at Bartlett Arboretum.

Here's a short video I made of her running across the Arb.

02.11.09 Norman Rockwell-esque

I covered the opening of the new grocery store in Greensburg, Kansas today. The place was packed with media, high school musicians and dignitaries. I haven't been in such a crowded situation since 1998 when Chattanooga gave Usher the key to the city.

It really felt like I was in a Norman Rockwell painting, except he never depicted any small towns that were rebuilding after an EF-5 tornado had ripped it apart

02.10.09 the littlest farmer

Spent some time on a family farm today. These John Deere boots belong to 2-year-old Jackson and the hands belong to his grandma. We rode a John Deere tractor together shortly after I shot this photo. He ain't a poser.

02.08.09 tuba time

This tuba player isn't as lonely as he looks. The rest of the Wichita State University's pep band was on the other side of the aisle.

02.07.09 fifty nifty United States

My friend Nick is gifted at many things, including drawing the map of the United States from memory using sidewalk chalk.

02.06.09 that's what I'm talking about

We made these sinful desserts tonight to show a friend just how easy they are to make (and how awesome they are). Our friend is planning a Valentine's dinner for a lovely lady and I know she'll thank us for adding this to his culinary bag of tricks.

02.05.09 I'm Not A Waitress

"I'm Not A Waitress" is the name of the red polish I use when I get a pedicure. I'm sure it's somewhere on this wall.

I went to the salon today to redeem a fantastic birthday gift for an hour-long massage from Carrie and Molly. It was great, however, I went to the dentist shortly afterwards and that was not as relaxing. I wish I had done the two things in reverse.

02.03.09 food made with love

CRG likes to use this heart-shaped ramekin to prep his spices before cooking. We had a fantastic Indian lunch that I can still smell on my hair and clothing. Unfortunately, he took all of the leftovers.

02.01.09 the mom view

Denise's van is equipped with this killer mirror that lets her check on the sleeping Mudbug in the back.

We spent the weekend in Kansas City helping Denise's sister by updating her Web site with new pics of cute kids wearing glasses. We also got to spend a little time with the Chittums.

You must check out Denise's nephew Jack sporting some frames. Did you know the human head weighs eight pounds?

01.31.09 crane pose

Denise impresses the youngsters with her Karate Kid crane pose. (They're easily impressed.)
